Dushawn John

DJ is born + raised in Phoenix, from the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Diné Nation, Camp Verde Yavapai Apache Nation, Pueblo of Zuni + Xicana heritage. She works across architecture, landscape architecture + GIS to compliment design approaches that support community, environment + culture inspired by land + Indigenous knowledge. She has two beagles + a shihpoo, drawing positive energy from everyday + the natural world.

Integrative

Her multifaceted practice also includes storytelling, public art, fashion, fine art, music, + jewelry design with creative problem-solving to develop impactful, culturally informed design solutions.

Study

DJ graduated from North High School in Central Phoenix; attended Phoenix College studying Marketing + Fashion Merchandising; earned her B.S. in Psychology through Arizona State University - Online; completed her M.S. in Geographic Information Systems + Master of Landscape Architecture at Arizona State University - Tempe Campus.

Analysis

She has served as a GIS Analyst for Food-Energy-Nexus Systems in South Phoenix + USDA Tree & Shade initiatives, Urban Nature in Phoenix CJEST (former) neighborhoods. Her analysis supports climate adaptation, community-driven planning + sustainable design.
